You'll find Tunnel Mountain on the eastern shore of the Bow River, in Banff National Park. In fact, Tunnel Mountain offers one of the best views of the town of Banff.
Despite its name, don't spend much time looking for a tunnel through Tunnel Mountain. An early survey by Major A.B. Rogers for the Canadian Pacific Railway called for a tunnel to be blasted through the mountain to lay the rail line. A reevaluation in 1883 by engineer Charles Shaw, who called Rogers' decision "the most extraordinary blunder I have ever know in the way of engineering" rerouted the line to run instead through the valley. The name still stuck.
